Malaysian Financier Low Taek Jho, Also Known As “Jho Low,” and Former Banker Ng Chong Hwa, Also Known As “Roger Ng,” Indicted for Conspiring to Launder Billions of Dollars in Illegal Proceeds and to Pay Hundreds of Millions of Dollars in Bribes

Former Banker Tim Leissner Pleaded Guilty to Conspiring to Launder Money and to Violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Related to 1MDB

A three-count criminal indictment was unsealed today in federal court in the Eastern District of New York charging Low Taek Jho, 36, also known as “Jho Low,” and Ng Chong Hwa, 51, also known as “Roger Ng,” with conspiring to launder billions of dollars embezzled from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Malaysia’s investment development fund, and conspiring to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) by paying bribes to various Malaysian and Abu Dhabi officials.  As part of the three-count indictment, Ng is also charged with conspiring to violate the FCPA by circumventing the internal accounting controls of a major New York-headquartered financial institution (Financial Institution), which underwrote more than $6 billion in bonds issued by 1MDB in three separate bond offerings in 2012 and 2013, while Ng was employed at the Financial Institution as a managing director.  Ng was arrested earlier today in Malaysia, pursuant to a provisional arrest warrant issued at the request of the United States.  Low remains at large.

Also unsealed today in federal court in the Eastern District of New York was the guilty plea of Tim Leissner, 48, the former Southeast Asia Chairman and participating managing director of the Financial Institution, to a two-count criminal information charging Leissner with conspiring to launder money and conspiring to violate the FCPA by both paying bribes to various Malaysian and Abu Dhabi officials and circumventing the internal accounting controls of the Financial Institution while he was employed by it.  According to court filings, Leissner has been ordered to forfeit $43.7 million as a result of his crimes.

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General John P. Cronan of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Richard P. Donoghue for the Eastern District of New York, Assistant Director in Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. of the FBI New York Field Office, and Special Agent in Charge R. Damon Rowe of IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) Los Angeles Field Office announced the charges.

    The Criminal Scheme

1MDB is a Malaysian state-owned and controlled fund created to pursue investment and development projects for the economic benefit of Malaysia and its people.  As alleged in court filings, between approximately 2009 and 2014, as 1MDB raised money to fund its projects, billions of dollars were misappropriated and fraudulently diverted from 1MDB, including funds 1MDB raised in 2012 and 2013 through three bond transactions that it executed with the Financial Institution.  As part of the scheme, and as alleged in court filings, Low, Ng, Leissner, and others conspired to bribe government officials in Malaysia, including at 1MDB, and Abu Dhabi to obtain and retain lucrative business for the Financial Institution, including the 2012 and 2013 bond deals.  They also allegedly conspired to launder the proceeds of their criminal conduct through the U.S. financial system by purchasing, among other things, luxury residential real estate in New York City and elsewhere, and artwork from a New York-based auction house, and by funding major Hollywood films.

As alleged, Low’s close relationships with high-ranking government officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi were central to the scheme.  Ng, Leissner, and others at the Financial Institution allegedly knew Low was close to these government officials, including a high-ranking Malaysian government official who had authority to approve 1MDB business decisions (Malaysian Official #1).  According to allegations in court filings, beginning in approximately 2009 and continuing through 2014, Low, Ng, Leissner, and the other co-conspirators used Low’s relationships to obtain and retain business for the Financial Institution through the promise and payment of hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes, including to ensure 1MDB awarded the Financial Institution a role on three bond transactions known internally at the Financial Institution as “Project Magnolia,” “Project Maximus,” and “Project Catalyze.”  As a result of its work for 1MDB during that time, the Financial Institution allegedly received approximately $600 million in fees and revenues along with increased reputational prestige.  At the same time, Ng, Leissner and others allegedly received large bonuses and enhanced their own reputations at the Financial Institution.  In total, according to allegations in court filings, more than $2.7 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB and Low, Ng, Leissner and others conspired to launder this money through the U.S. financial system to pay bribes to foreign officials and for the personal benefit of themselves and their relatives.

    Project Magnolia

In early 2012, according to allegations in court filings, following a series of meetings in Malaysia and the United Kingdom, Low, Leissner, Ng and the co-conspirators agreed that, with the assistance of the Financial Institution, 1MDB would issue $1.75 billion in bonds guaranteed by an entity wholly-owned and controlled by the government of Abu Dhabi.  Low allegedly explained to Ng, Leissner, and others at the time that, to complete the transaction, bribes would need to be paid to officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi and hundreds of millions of dollars were allegedly paid to officials in these countries.  Court filings also allege that Low, Ng, Leissner, and other co-conspirators knew that Low intended to use funds misappropriated from the bond transaction to bribe and influence the officials to obtain the necessary approvals and any additional assistance to execute Project Magnolia for the Financial Institution and to pay kickbacks to Ng, Leissner, and others.

In or around March 2012, 1MDB allegedly selected the Financial Institution to be the sole bookrunner and arranger for Project Magnolia.  As part of the scheme, Low and other co-conspirators allegedly enlisted the assistance of 1MDB officials, promising to pay them bribes and kickbacks.  In one instance, as alleged in court filings, in connection with Project Magnolia, Low told one 1MDB official that he would “[g]ive [the official a] big present” when the transaction closed.  According to allegations in court documents, the fact that bribes and kickbacks were being paid in connection with Project Magnolia was known to Ng, Leissner, andother employees of the Financial Institution.

After Project Magnolia closed on or about May 21, 2012, more than $500 million of the bond proceeds were allegedly misappropriated and diverted from 1MDB through numerous wire transfers to bank accounts in the name of shell companies beneficially owned and controlled by Low, Leissner, Ng, and other co-conspirators, including a high-level official at the Abu Dhabi entity that guaranteed the Project Magnolia bonds and a close relative of Malaysian Official #1.  As alleged, the bond proceeds transferred to Malaysian Official #1’s close relative were later used by the relative’s U.S. motion picture company to assist in the production of the film “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

    Project Maximus and Project Catalyze

Court filings further allege that from May 2012 and continuing through 2013, Low, Ng, Leissner, and their co-conspirators continued to work to ensure that the Financial Institution obtained and retained additional 1MDB business, including the bond transactions known as “Project Maximus” and “Project Catalyze,” which transactions generated substantial fees and revenues for the Financial Institution.  As alleged, although both transactions were designed to raise more than $4 billion for 1MDB’s investment and development projects, Low, Ng, Leissner, and other co-conspirators used the transactions to further the criminal scheme, ultimately laundering hundreds of millions of dollars of diverted funds from these transactions into bank accounts beneficially owned and controlled by, among others, the co-conspirators, including Low, Leissner and officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi.  As alleged in court filings, throughout this time, Ng, Leissner, and at least one other employee of the Financial Institution knew that Low would and did pay bribes to influence officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi to obtain the necessary approvals to execute Project Maximus and Project Catalyze.  Low, Ng, Leissner, and others also allegedly knew that large portions of the bond proceeds would be illegally diverted to themselves and others, including to foreign government officials.

As part of the scheme alleged in court filings, Low, Ng, Leissner and other co-conspirators again used a series of wire transfers to launder billions of dollars of misappropriated and fraudulently diverted funds from Project Maximus and Project Catalyze.  Following the close of Project Maximus, approximately $790 million of the bond proceeds was allegedly transferred through a series of shell company accounts beneficially owned and controlled by Low, Leissner and others, including accounts of officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi.  In particular,Leissner and Ng allegedly caused millions of dollars of these funds to be transferred to accounts of 1MDB officials or relatives of such officials in exchange for their assistance in obtaining and retaining business for the Financial Institution.Over $35 million of the bond proceeds also allegedly was used by a co-conspirator to help acquire a condominium in New York, New York beneficially owned by Low.

Similarly, according to allegations in court filings, after Project Catalyze closed in March 2013, more than $1 billion of diverted funds, traceable to the transaction, were laundered, at Low’s direction, to bank accounts in the name of entities beneficially owned and controlled by Low, Leissner, and others, including 1MDB officials.  As alleged, more than $4 million of the funds were transferred to a bank account beneficially owned by a relative of Ng.Additionally, as part of the scheme, Low allegedly used a shell company account to receive more than $1 billion of the Project Catalyze bond proceeds and spent approximately $137 million of these funds to purchase works of art at a high-end art auction house in New York, New York.

Post-Catalyze 1MDB Transactions at the Financial Institution

The Financial Institution continued to seek business from 1MDB after Project Catalyze.  As alleged, Leissner and others were particularly focused on securing a role for the Financial Institution on a proposed initial public offering (IPO) of 1MDB’s energy assets.  To influence certain officials to award the Financial Institution a role in the proposed IPO, Low and Leissner allegedly continued to pay bribes to certain officials at 1MDB.

For example, as alleged, in an online chat between Low and Leissner in June 2014, Low and Leissner discussed the need to “suck up to” a 1MDB official and to send “cakes” to a person believed to be the wife of Malaysian Official #1.  A few months after this chat, a bank account owned and controlled by Leissner and his relative was used to transfer approximately $4.1 million to a high-end New York jeweler, in part, to pay for gold jewelry for the wife of Malaysian Official #1.

The charges in the indictment as to Low and Ng are merely allegations, and those defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation was jointly conducted by the FBI’s International Corruption Unit and IRS-CI.  The government’s criminal case is being handled by the Criminal Division’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS) and Fraud Section and the Business and Securities Fraud Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.  MLARS Trial Attorneys Jennifer E. Ambuehl, Woo S. Lee, and Mary Ann McCarthy, Fraud Section Trial Attorneys Katherine A. Nielsen and Nikhila Raj, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jacquelyn M. Kasulis and Drew Rolle of the Eastern District of New York are prosecuting the case.  Additional Criminal Division Trial Attorneys and Assistant U.S. Attorneys within U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Eastern District of New York and Central District of California have provided valuable assistance with various aspects of this investigation, including with civil and criminal forfeitures.

The Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs provided critical assistance in this case.  The Department also appreciates the significant cooperation and assistance provided by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System along with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  The Department also appreciates the significant assistance provided by the Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Attorney General’s Chambers of Singapore, the Singapore Police Force-Commercial Affairs Division, the Office of the Attorney General and the Federal Office of Justice of Switzerland, the judicial investigating authority of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the Criminal Investigation Department of the Grand-Ducal Police of Luxembourg.

The International Unit of the Criminal Division’s MLARS is home to the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative—a team of dedicated prosecutors working to prosecute individuals and forfeit the proceeds of foreign official corruption that has affected the U.S. financial system and, where appropriate, return those proceeds to benefit the people harmed by these acts of corruption and abuse of office.  MLARS’s Bank Integrity Unit investigates and prosecutes banks and other financial institutions, including their officers, managers, and employees, whose actions threaten the integrity of the individual institution or the wider financial system.

The Criminal Division’s Fraud Section is responsible for investigating and prosecuting all FCPA matters.  Additional information about the Justice Department’s FCPA enforcement efforts can be found at www.justice.gov/criminal/fraud/fcpa.

HOW VERMONT’S CATHOLIC CHURCH HID DECADES OF CHILD ABUSE

BURLINGTON — Before Vermont Catholic Bishop Christopher Coyne invited questions at a recent press conference pledging cooperation with a current local and state investigation of past church-related misconduct, he turned to reporters with his own inquiry.

“Want me to mike up?” he asked. “Any problem with the sound?”

Longtime observers of the statewide Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington couldn’t believe what they were hearing. They remember the church’s muzzling response regarding the late priest Michael Madden, who was charged with sexual improprieties during a 20-year career at five parishes and the local St. Joseph’s Orphanage — the latter the subject of a recent BuzzFeed story that sparked the new probe.

In the 1980s, a county state’s attorney tried to subpoena then-Bishop John Marshall, who served from 1972 to 1992, to testify in court. The diocese, citing the Bible and the U.S. Constitution, argued its leader was immune from such calls.

“In order for the church, its priests and bishops … to enjoy the constitutional right to freely exercise their ecclesiastical or religious functions,” one of its lawyers argued, “it is essential that they have independence from state authority.”

A judge went on to rule the diocese had to provide internal information. But the church didn’t comply with that demand either, prompting the state to drop multiple sexual assault charges against Madden in return for a no-contest plea on a single count of lewd and lascivious conduct.

The priest, spared prison with a deferred sentence, opted out of a state Corrections Department sex offender treatment program for a church-run alternative. There he told a therapist he had molested dozens of teenage boys — only to go on to violate his probation six times and, only because of that, serve two years in jail.

Vermont’s Catholic Church is making headlines this fall by agreeingto work with law enforcement, releasing past child abuse victims from nondisclosure agreements and forming a lay committee to review clergy misconduct files and publicly release the names of abusers — news in part because the state’s largest religious denomination has a decades-long history of defying court orders and outside review.

‘Prevented the truth from getting out sooner’

The diocese has found itself back under a magnifying glass ever since the BuzzFeed story, titled “We Saw Nuns Kill Children: The Ghosts of St. Joseph’s Catholic Orphanage,” spurred authorities to reopen an investigation into the now-closed Burlington facility, which operated from 1854 to 1974.

Back when former orphanage residents first spoke publicly in the 1990s about what BuzzFeed sums up as “unrelenting physical and psychological abuse of captive children,” the diocese offered each $5,000 to waive their right to further legal action. As many as 160 pursued the deal and more than 100 accepted payment, according to news reports a quarter-century ago.

But that was only part of the Vermont Catholic Church’s wider suppression plan. Take the instance of two women who say they were raped as teenage girls by the now deceased priest Benjamin Wysolmerski, who was transferred to eight parishes during his 35-year career.

“He did it while he was the teacher at the school teaching us catechism,” one woman said in a 1994 court deposition. “He did it on back roads going to visit people who he was helping in the parish. He did it to me in the attic of my grandmother’s home.”

The woman said Wysolmerski eventually impregnated her and paid for an abortion. She went on to write then-Bishop Marshall, believing he already knew because the priest had showed her a letter other women had sent the diocese about the situation.

Instead, Marshall replied: “My study has uncovered nothing so far to corroborate your story and some rather strong evidence, which would seem to exonerate the one against whom you have made your allegation.”

Wysolmerski, denying all claims against him, never was charged criminally. But the two women, believing the priest had victimized as many as 25 girls, filed civil lawsuits against him before settling with the diocese for undisclosed sums.

Burlington lawyer Jerry O’Neill, a former federal prosecutor, represented the two in court. He recalls a judge ordering the diocese to share its personnel records, only to watch the church balk until it was sanctioned $5,000 and threatened with a default judgment if it didn’t pay the fine and provide the files.

“They were absolutely unwilling to produce any of the information whatsoever,” O’Neill says today. “I am sure that the diocese’s settling in secrecy prevented the truth from getting out sooner and thereby ran the statute out on other claims.”

    ‘They’re revictimizing these people’

The diocese was continuing to cover up past abuse when the Boston Globe revealed decades of unreported sexual allegations against clergy in the Massachusetts capital in a Pulitzer Prize-winning 2002 series featured in the film “Spotlight.”

In response, the Vermont diocese said it would investigate statewide claims of misconduct, although it only would specify the number and nature of complaints as “a few” and said it didn’t plan to give prosecutors the names of accused priests.

“We do have a policy in place,” an aide to then-Bishop Kenneth Angell, who served from 1992 to 2005, explained to the press in 2002. “We think that it is working.”

Then-state Attorney General Bill Sorrell disagreed and demanded the church’s personnel files. That Easter, the bishop voiced “renewed determination that victims will find justice and healing.” But two months after the state’s records request, the diocese had yet to deliver anything and said it would only provide files since 1982, knowing the majority of allegations occurred before then.

In the spring of 2002, Angell placed six unnamed practicing priests on leave and provided paperwork on them and 13 unidentified former clergy to the state. By summer, the attorney general’s office was investigating charges against nearly 40 recent or retired clergymen. By fall, the first of what would be 40 civil lawsuits would be filed against the diocese. By winter, a county superior court judge had ordered the diocese to hand over all its clergy misconduct records since 1950.

A year later, however, the church had done so little the Globe published a story headlined “Vt. Diocese Called Slow to Respond to Abuse” that reported the church’s flouting of court orders and failure to reconcile with victims.

“They’re revictimizing these people,” O’Neill, representing all the accusers, was quoted. “We want to know what the diocese knew in relation to specific priests and whether they knew what the size of the problem was and what they did about it.”

Assistant Attorney General Cindy Maguire told the Globe the diocese hadn’t reported any of the misconduct claims to the state before the Boston scandal broke nor had it placed any of the accused priests on leave until her office announced its investigation. Ultimately the state didn’t charge anyone criminally, but only because credible claims found were too old to prosecute under statutes of limitations.

‘They could have settled a long time ago’

The diocese, for its part, began to settle the first of its lawsuits.

“I am very confident we would have won these cases in court on the basis these events are just so old and the plaintiffs waited too long to come forward, but obviously we’re dealing with a new era in terms of handling these claims,” one of its lawyers said at the end of 2003. “We’re going to do our best to put all of these cases behind us as quickly and fairly as possible.”

The church, however, was anything but conciliatory. In one case, its lawyers sought unsuccessfully to introduce one accuser’s entire sexual history, including that with his wife. In another, they argued state statute at the time of one reported aggravated sexual assault called a rape victim “a female person” and “since plaintiff is male, his alleged rape could not have violated” the law.

That caused many accusers to settle with the diocese.

    Jerry O’Neill

“Besides what happened to me, I didn’t need to be revictimized by them dragging their feet and trying to wear me down,” one man said upon wrapping up a case in 2004 rather than continue to wait for the church to comply with a motion holding it in contempt of court. “With the money they spent on defense, they could have settled a long time ago.”

Making matters worse, O’Neill had to file court papers to ensure the settlement after the diocese didn’t pay his client as scheduled.

Little changed when Angell made way in 2005 for another bishop, Salvatore Matano. On the one-year anniversary of the new leader’s ordination, headlines reported the diocese had yet to fully comply with a tougher sex abuse policy at the same time a court was selecting a jury for the first of a string of Vermont misconduct trials.

By then, a judge had ordered the attorney general’s office to give O’Neill most of its findings — including transcripts of interviews with people claiming priest misconduct; correspondence between the state, the diocese and clergy; and church personnel files — because, in his opinion, “the release of these materials to the plaintiff is clearly in the ‘public interest.’”

‘It would be the best to minimize the cost’

The resulting 500 pages of photocopied paperwork revealed not only abuse but also the fact the diocese knew certain priests were problematic when it transferred them from one local parish to another. Not wanting that information publicized in court, the church settled the first trial case just before its April 2006 opening gavel. The sum: A record $965,000.

“This was much more than we wanted to pay,” a church lawyer said at the time. “But we decided that it would be the best to minimize the cost.”

In response, O’Neill released the information anyway. The most incriminating came in a 1978 letter in which Bishop Marshall acknowledged the church knew now defrocked priest Edward Paquette had molested boys in two states when it assigned him to parishes in Rutland in 1972, Montpelier in 1974 and Burlington in 1976.

    Bishop Salvatore Matano
Bishop Salvatore Matano served from 2005 to 2014. Provided photo

“Despite the demands of two sets of irate parents that ‘something be done about this,’ Father Paquette’s pastor and I are determined to take the risk of leaving him in his present assignment,” Marshall wrote to a treatment center working with the priest. “Our thinking is that, knowing the awareness of others, concerning his problem, Father Paquette will have reason for ‘self-control.’”

Even with a torrent of negative news reports, the diocese wasn’t done fighting. A month after agreeing to the nearly $1 million settlement, its lawyer called for the removal of the judge who oversaw the case from future ones. The bishop, for his part, aimed to shield the church from having to pay out too much money by placing all its local parish property in charitable trusts.

“In such litigious times,” Matano wrote in a May 2006 letter to the state’s Catholics, “it would be a gross act of mismanagement if I did not do everything possible to protect our parishes and the interests of the faithful from unbridled, unjust and terribly unreasonable assault.”

‘Bishops will pay money to avoid accountability’

In response, O’Neill charged the diocese with waging a “campaign of intimidation” that was part of a “power play” aimed “to interfere with judicial independence.”

Discard what does not serve anyone. ~and quote.

By Celia Farber,  published on The Epoch Times, on October 28, 2018

WASHINGTON—The mainstream media ignored it completely. President Donald Trump wrote about it on Twitter. And on a rainy weekend, the members of the Walk Away movement made a statement about recovering themselves and loving America.

The five-month-old Walk Away campaign—the joining of individuals who used Facebook to express their desire to leave the Democratic Party—became so much more than a hashtag, with a three-day festival marked by high spirits, fiery speeches, and a pretty good turnout, despite the cold rain.

On Twitter, progressive pedants posted photos from unflattering angles, seeking to prove that the crowd was smaller than the 5,500 claimed by organizers. Nevertheless, it was a triumph for the new, hybrid grassroots movement that, in some ways, has picked up where the Tea Party left off.

The motley movement that has confounded and enraged the left proved itself, first of all, to be human (not bots—digital creations used to manipulate social media—as some on the left had claimed), and humorous and determined, to boot.

On Oct. 27, with a short, 15-minute march in the rain from John Marshall Park to Freedom Plaza, Walk Away strode into the American populist, free-speech renaissance that’s exploding nationwide in the era of Trump. People descended from all across the country to attend the various events. One couple even came all the way from New Zealand.

The very same weekend, by sheer coincidence, hundreds of young black leaders were invited to The White House to meet with President Donald Trump, as Turning Point USA’s Candace Owens announced “Blexit,” referring to the divorce between American blacks and the Democratic Party. All across the city, patriotism was in the air, with chants of “USA” and “Walk Away.”

    Political Rockstar

The Walk Away march weekend began with a glitzy, packed gala at Trump International Hotel on Oct. 26.

Bikers for Trump mixed with glamorous pop stars and elegant ladies in ball gowns, as Walk Away founder Brandon Straka, dressed in a three-piece black suit and top hat, posed on a red carpet, besieged by hordes of people lining up to have their pictures taken with him.

Inside the packed gala, Straka was met with many standing ovations, as he took the stage with a theatrical flair, in top hat and walking stick, to thank his team of volunteers and describe the wild ride he’s been on since he got off the liberal train.

Five months ago, he was a hairdresser and aspiring actor; now, he’s an unlikely political rock star, who was even thanked personally in a tweet from the president, who wrote, “Congratulations to Brandon Straka for starting something very special.”

In May, Straka lit a match to a new bonfire of post-Trumpian frustration with a video that went viral explaining why he—a lifelong Democrat—was “walking away” from the left.

Straka quickly became a popular guest on virtually every right-of-center cable TV show and podcast,  launched his own podcast, and raised money for a quickly planned, very polished christening of the grassroots movement he launched after going on a run, and having the words come to him: “Once upon a time, I was a liberal.”

    Refuge From Identity Politics

What has distinguished the Walk Away movement from other conservative, MAGA, and anti-left movements, is precisely that it was by and for those who actually were liberals and who didn’t (by and large) vote for Trump, but who became “walk-away-ers” and even Trump supporters, due to the abuses they had suffered at the hands of the left.

Edith Cornelius at the Trump International Hotel in Washington on Oct. 26. (York Du/NTD)
With the sudden emergence of Walk Away, identity politics is reaping the revenge it sowed with its countless assaults on freedom of opinion, expression, and thought.

In that sense, the movement is internal and subtle—it is about coming out of the identity politics closet, shaking off its choke-collars, and daring to be proud to be an American before anything else.

“We found civility again,” said Straka. “I watched with a measurable pride as Americans, who had sat by silently for so long, began to find their truth and to push back against hate, with love.”

People at the march told The Epoch Times that they had “lost” friends and even family members, been disinvited from holiday parties and even weddings, in some cases written out of family inheritances, because of even a fractional show of doubt toward the media’s anti-Trump narrative.

A woman named Edie had tears in her eyes, as she recounted losing her lifelong best friend after coming out as a Walk-Awayer. “I feel like these people here are my new family,” she said. “It is such a relief not to be alone with the way I feel, the way I see things.”

“I texted my son on the plane before taking off to come here,” said Olga, who came to the United States from the Soviet Union. “I was afraid I might lose him but he wrote back, ‘Mom, have a great time.’ I was so relieved!”

    Immigrants and America
On Oct. 27, at John Marshall Park and later at Freedom Plaza, people huddled under umbrellas and listened to the speakers, who included singer Joy Villa, former Clinton Secret Service agent Buzz Patterson, actress Stacey Dash, author Mason Weaver, InfoWars reporter Owen Shroyer, Prager University social-media manager Will Witt, Pastor Mark Burns, comedian Terrence Williams, and historian and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza. There were musical performances by Kaya Jones, Gary Humble, Jordan Page, and JT Wilde.

“This is amazing,” said D’Souza, who spoke at the closing brunch on Oct. 28. “This is deplorable! Are you guys ready for the midterms?”

The Walk Away rally in Freedom Plaza in Washington on Oct. 27. (York Du/NTD)

D’Souza made a very interesting point in his opening remarks: “I’m thrilled to be here with my wife, Debbie. We’re both immigrants to the United States. The immigrant is, in a sense, the original Walk Away.”

American immigrants kick-started the country at the turn of the last century. All fled various forms of tyranny, repression, poverty, and war. Coming to America was leaving something that felt intolerable.

And this is what the Walk Away movement is a microcosm of: the never-ending, infinite human yearning for freedom, be it from literal chains or psychic and social chains.

Prager U’s Witt stressed that the greatest current threat to liberty in this country is coming from Big Tech. “It’s disgusting what these big tech companies are doing to conservatives. We want freedom of speech!” he said.

He noted that one of his videos, which opposed murder, was deleted from social media for being too controversial. He also spoke about the war on men.

“Men are committing suicide at incredibly high rates,” he said. “They die at work, they’re depressed, they’re anxious, and they’re lonely. Men are discriminated against everywhere they go. And by the way, two genders—that’s how many we’ve got.”

    The crowd cheered wildly.

“I am so excited to be here today,” said Burns, who is black, “to make a declaration to the world that we are tired of those race-baiting Democrats.”

    Media Silent
Straka, speaking at the rally on Oct. 27, made an important point:

“I still have yet to receive a single phone call from CNN, MSNBC, Huffington Post, New York Times, or any of the usual suspects, for an interview or even a statement,” he said. “That has not stopped any of them from printing stories about this movement, the Walk Away Campaign. They have called us Russian propaganda, Russian bots, paid actors, fake testimonials from fake people. Well, I say: fake news!”

The crowd cheered, suggesting that compelling the media to report on worlds and views they disagree with could be itself the platform for a grassroots movement.

Members of the Walk Away movement march through Washington on Oct. 27. (York Du/NTD)

In a Vietnamese restaurant the day after the march, there was a big-screen TV tuned to CNN.

The station offered no mention of the events involving either WalkAway or the Blexit movement—both events that the president has addressed directly.

The CNN caption about how we’re supposed to think of this past week in U.S. history had nothing of the complexity, joy, or grassroots passion for free speech on display with Walk Away. Instead, only this: “Deadly shootings and attempted bombings mark deadly week.”

“We are walking away,” said Straka in a pre-recorded video, “from the lies, the hate, the violence, and vandalism. We are walking away from the vitriol, the name-calling, the censorship. We are walking away from the phony and crooked investigations, the divisions, the race-baiting. We are walking away from the attacks on our America.”

The slogan for the Walk Away march was simple and resonant: “We walked away alone, but now we march together.”

Apparently, the Caravan of invasion from South America is beyond comprehension. Here we have the media in South America that is an extension from the same media here in the United States [ radio, news paper, television, etc.] that is as we all know corrupt propaganda, brainwashing the good people from Central America+ South America to join others for a better life in the United States. The poor people that do not know any better of the scam, get their bags+ their children ready and join the many.

However, what they do not know is that the many are very dangerous people, that by the way are mingled with students mostly from Venezuela that as well are being brainwashed. The many, as we were saying are from all over the world, or should we say, they are fighters like for example from ISIS+ MS13, etc., that wants their way in, in the United States! And God only knows what their intentions are once they are in the country. We guess they have their masters waiting for them here, and or other sleeping cells that are already here, supposedly to “take over America.”

These criminals for a fact have covertly invaded many countries in South+ Central America, inclusive some serious Iranian terrorists fuckwits in Venezuela. Actually the entire government of Venezuela is run by Iranian criminals+ many from Communists Cuba+ China. We can imagine why the country is in the situation that it is now.

For certainly we do not want the enemies in our backyard.

This is dangerous. This is pathetic. This is heart breaking.

And they warned us about October surprise. Bingo!

Read more about these subjects below:

Guatemalan Authorities Rescue Group of Minors from Human Smugglers in Caravan

published on Judicial Watch Corruption Chronicles, on October 25, 2018

Judicial Watch has obtained exclusive information and photos from Guatemalan authorities revealing that they have recovered seven unaccompanied minors from human smugglers working inside the caravan. The children have been taken into custody and they are being provided with food, water and medical attention, according to a high-level Guatemalan government official. The smugglers have been arrested and the broader investigation into criminal activity in the caravan is ongoing.

A Judicial Watch team, headed by Director of Investigations Chris Farrell, spent several days on the Guatemala-Honduras border covering the illegal alien caravan, which originated in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula. The team filed a number of exclusive reports and videos and met with Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and other top government officials.

“Judicial Watch has been at the forefront of this top news story, reporting exclusive information from inside that no other news organization is reporting,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Chris Farrell and Irene Garcia put themselves in harm’s way to get this material, and Judicial Watch supporters nationwide are highly grateful for their sacrifices.”

Read more about human trafficking in the caravan here. See Judicial Watch’s exclusive interview with a caravan member, a 40-year-old Honduran who previously lived in the United States for decades before getting deported, here.

See Judicial Watch’s exclusive reporting about the large numbers of migrants from various countries–including Brazil and even as far as China & India– traveling through Central America en route to the United States here. Read more about this exclusive story here.

Judicial Watch recently reported that, in a startling revelation, Guatemala’s president announced in the country’s largest newspaper that nearly 100 ISIS terrorists have been apprehended in the impoverished Central American nation.

Young Angry Men & Gangbangers March Towards U.S. Yelling “Vamos Para Allá Trump!”

Besides gang members and mobs of young angry men, the Central American caravan making its way into the United States also consists of Africans, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans and Indians. Judicial Watch is covering the crisis from the Guatemalan-Honduran border this week and observed that the popular mainstream media narrative of desperate migrants—many of them women and children—seeking a better life is hardly accurate. Guatemalan intelligence officials confirmed that the caravan that originated in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula includes a multitude of Special Interest Aliens (SIA) from the countries listed above as well as other criminal elements and gang members.

There are also large groups of men, some with criminal histories, aggressively demanding that the U.S. take them in. During a visit to the Guatemalan town of Chiquimula, about 35 miles from the Honduran border, Judicial Watch encountered a rowdy group of about 600 men, ages 17 to about 40, marching north on a narrow two-lane highway. Among them was a 40-year-old Honduran man who previously lived in the United States for decades and got deported. His English was quite good, and he said his kids and girlfriend live in the U.S. Another man in his 30s contradicted media reports that caravan participants are fleeing violence and fear for their life. “We’re not scared,” he said waving his index finger as others around him nodded in agreement. “We’re going to the United States to get jobs.” Others chanted “vamos para allá Trump!” (We’re coming Trump) as they clenched their fists in the air. “We need money and food,” said a 29-year-old man who made the trek with his 21-year-old brother.

All of the migrants interviewed by Judicial Watch repeated the same rehearsed line when asked who organized the caravan, insisting it was a spontaneous event even though there were clearly organizers shouting instructions in Spanish and putting select persons in front of cameras for interviews. A few claimed they heard about it on local news in Honduras. All of them said the caravan was not about politics but rather poverty. “I just want to get back to the U.S.,” said a 32-year-old man who admitted he has been deported from the U.S. twice. “We are all just looking for work.” The group radiated a sense of empowerment. One marcher, who appeared to be in his late teens, yelled “you go live in Honduras and see what it’s like!”

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, a conservative, said in a local newspaper report that leftist interests seeking to destabilize the country are manipulating migrants.  Women and children are being used without regard to the risks to their lives, Hernández said. “The irregular mobilization was organized for political reasons to negatively affect the governance and image of Honduras and to destabilize the peace of neighboring countries,” the president said, adding that many have returned to the country after realizing they’ve been fooled.

Guatemala is overwhelmed with the sudden onslaught and immigration officials confirmed 1,700 migrants have been returned to Honduras on buses. The first wave of migrants totaled about 4,000, according to Guatemalan government sources, followed by a second, less organized group of about 2,000. The impoverished Central American nation needs help, including logistical, communications and civil affairs support to stop the human caravans. “There are only so many resources we can dedicate to this,” said Guatemalan Secretary of Strategic Intelligence Mario Duarte. Guatemalans are getting robbed and crimes are being committed by the people in the caravans, Duarte said.

    Very revealing video:

  • Swetnick, Avenatti Referred for Criminal Investigation

Swetnick, Avenatti Referred for Criminal Investigation

    DqgcXB2VsAI518H.jpg-large

Providing False Statements, Obstructing Congressional Investigations, and Conspiracy All Violate Federal Law

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley today referred Julie Swetnick and her attorney Michael Avenatti to the Justice Department for criminal investigation relating to a potential conspiracy to provide materially false statements to Congress and obstruct a congressional committee investigation, three separate crimes, in the course of considering Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States.

While the Committee was in the middle of its extensive investigation of the late-breaking sexual-assault allegations made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Avenatti publicized his client’s allegations of drug- and alcohol-fueled gang rapes in the 1980s. The obvious, subsequent contradictions along with the suspicious timing of the allegations necessitate a criminal investigation by the Justice Department.

“When a well-meaning citizen comes forward with information relevant to the committee’s work, I take it seriously. It takes courage to come forward, especially with allegations of sexual misconduct or personal trauma. I’m grateful for those who find that courage,” Grassley said. “But in the heat of partisan moments, some do try to knowingly mislead the committee. That’s unfair to my colleagues, the nominees and others providing information who are seeking the truth. It stifles our ability to work on legitimate lines of inquiry. It also wastes time and resources for destructive reasons. Thankfully, the law prohibits such false statements to Congress and obstruction of congressional committee investigations. For the law to work, we can’t just brush aside potential violations. I don’t take lightly making a referral of this nature, but ignoring this behavior will just invite more of it in the future.”

Grassley referred Swetnick and Avenatti for investigation in a letter sent today to the Attorney General of the United States and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The letter notes potential violations of 18 U.S.C. §§ 371, 1001 and 1505, which respectively define the federal criminal offenses of conspiracy, false statements and obstruction of Congress. The referral seeks further investigation only, and is not intended to be an allegation of a crime.

The referral methodically details the issues with Swetnick’s allegations as relayed by Avenatti, the immediate diversion of committee resources to investigate those allegations, the subsequent contradictions by both Swetnick and Avenatti, the lack of substantiating or corroborating evidence, and the overarching and serious credibility problems pervading the presentation of these allegations.

Swetnick made her allegations in a sworn statement to the committee on September 26. In an October 1 interview with NBC News, however, Swetnick specifically and explicitly back-tracked or contradicted key parts of her sworn statement on these and other allegations. In subsequent interviews, Avenatti likewise cast serious doubt on or contradicted the allegations while insisting that he had thoroughly vetted his client.

Last month, Grassley referred for criminal investigation an individual who made false sexual-assault allegations against Justice Kavanaugh, which were then investigated by committee staff before the individual recanted the claims on social media.

  • Our Intentions Matters

    Our Intentions Matters

    DMiOm1mXkAICmxl

    Intention

Your intentions matter. What are they? What is beneath your accomplishments? What do you intend by what you do? Find out what your intentions are and what lies within and beneath them.

What do you intend today? And what do you intend for your life?

Motivation is not quite the same as intention, although it is close. What motivates you may reveal your intention.

Where do you position yourself in life? Stop running a little bit to see what you are running towards and why.

This is not an easy question I ask you. It requires more than a quick answer.

Willingness is not quite the same as intention. Caring is not quite the same as intention. But they are intimately related.

What are your intentions? Perhaps you don’t know the answer. Perhaps you fear the answer. There is no right or wrong here. We’re just trying to find out what star you sail under. Your core intention is not meant to be a secret from you.

Perhaps your intention is to come out of life unscathed.

Perhaps your intention is to please.

Perhaps your intention is to appear as you are not.

Perhaps your intention is to fight.

Perhaps your intention is to flee.

Perhaps your intention is to get right down to it.

Perhaps your intention is to love.

Perhaps your intention is to make your mark in the world.

Perhaps your intention is to show the world it is right or wrong.

Perhaps your intention is to show someone you’re better than they thought, or worse.

Perhaps your intention is to bow out.

Perhaps your intention is to take the stage.

Perhaps your intention is to be noticed or unnoticed.

Perhaps your intention is to hide.

Perhaps your intention is to be found.

Perhaps your intention is to grow, to create, to mean something.

Perhaps your intention is to know Me, find Me, follow Me, or avoid Me.

Perhaps your intention is to question.

Perhaps your intention is to be valued.

Perhaps your intention is to value.

Perhaps your intention is to find meaning.

Perhaps your intention is to dispel myth.

Perhaps your intention is to find truth.

Perhaps your intention is to achieve fame.

Perhaps your intention is to tell lies.

Perhaps your intention is to succeed at nothing or everything.

    Perhaps your intentions are unknown.

Unknown simply means undiscovered as yet.

What do you value? And what do you think you value? And what would you like to value? To what use do you put this illusory time?

What do you imagine? And what do you think about? Where does your heart lie? Where do you want it to?

If I gave you one wish today, what would it be? Do not be hasty. Think a moment.

If I gave you three wishes, what would they be?

The question is: Where are you now? It is not Where will you be later? What matters to you now?

What matters to you now is a rung in the ladder of life.

By your intention, you will be known. You will be known to yourself.

Your intention is the making of you.

From awareness of your intention, you gain greater perception. From your intention, you climb.

  • Donald J. Trump is Taking Action to End Human Trafficking

Donald J. Trump is Taking Action to End Human Trafficking

ENDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING: President Donald J. Trump and his Administration are working to end the scourge of human trafficking, also known as modern slavery.

Today, the President’s Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (PITF) met to discuss the Administration’s efforts to tackle human trafficking.

The Task Force is a Cabinet-level entity, consisting of 15 departments and agencies, which work tirelessly to prosecute traffickers, protect survivors, and combat human trafficking.

Members of the Advisory Council on Human Trafficking, comprised of survivor leaders appointed by the President, attended.

The recipients of the 2018 Presidential Award for Extraordinary Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons were honored at the meeting.

TAKING ACTION AT HOME AND ABROAD: The Trump Administration is taking the fight to human trafficking on all fronts, carrying out robust domestic and international efforts.

In April 2018, President Trump signed historic legislation into law to combat online sex trafficking, holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring justice for survivors.

Last year, President Trump issued an Executive Order which directed his Administration to crack down on transnational criminal organizations that use human trafficking.

Domestically, Federal agencies are ensuring full enforcement of our laws so that those who seek to exploit our people and break our laws face justice. Last year:

The Department of Justice secured convictions against nearly 500 defendants in human trafficking and the Federal Bureau of Investigation dismantled 42 criminal enterprises engaged in child sex trafficking.

The Department of Homeland Security initiated over 800 human trafficking cases, resulting in 1,500 arrests, 530 convictions, and over 500 victims identified.

The Department of Justice anti-trafficking grantees reported assisting more than 8,000 survivors between July 2016 and June 2017, greatly exceeding the past record.

The Department of Health and Human Services modernized the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

The United States is also taking the lead to end this crime internationally, as the largest donor of the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery.

The Trump Administration is pushing back against authoritarian regimes to eliminate forced labor, sex trafficking, and the exploitation of children.

Human trafficking is very common under regimes lacking basic civil protections.

The Administration is limiting the number of Tier 3 countries in the TIP Report that will receive national security waivers under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

A THREAT TO OUR COUNTRY: Human trafficking is a threat to homeland security, public health, and the rule of law.

Human trafficking is often a hidden crime that knows no boundaries, impacting adults and children of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities.

Reports of human trafficking come from every State.

There are an estimated 24.9 million victims of human trafficking worldwide.

Drug traffickers in Central and South America are increasingly engaging in human trafficking.
